Dear Telluride Choral Society Supporters,

As we approach our next season of choral festivities, we invite you once again to remember the Telluride Choral Society (TCS).  Your friends and neighbors in Telluride have joined together to bring you outstanding choral music from all age groups since 1994.  Each year brings a higher level of musical skill and complexity to all levels of singers, especially our children.

This past year was one of successful transition for TCS.  Our new Artistic Director, Dr. David Lingle, was selected through interviews and live-rehearsals from a large pool of exceptionally talented candidates.  After a full season under his leadership, we feel extremely fortunate to have his optimism, talent, and enthusiasm at the helm of TCS.

David started the season off with a new creation of his— an overwhelmingly beautiful and successful MasterWorks performance of Vivaldi’s Gloria, that involved our Chamber Singers, the Telluride String Quartet, and special guests. WinterSing’s “Let it Snow!” followed during the Holidays, bringing five choral groups and a wide array of music to over 2,000 people in Telluride, Montrose and Mountain Village.  SpringSing’s “A Jubilant Song” was engaging and exciting.

TCS remains instrumental in fostering musical education and outreach for the community and schools through our concerts. And this year, we’re offering new classes for people who want to learn, understand, or just perform music better.

We wouldn’t exist without your financial assistance though!  With cutbacks in foundation and government funding for the arts, TCS and virtually all non-profits have tightened our budgets. Your contribution goes toward much needed tuition scholarships for our singers both young and old; renting venues; purchasing musical scores; Artistic Director’s compensation; advertising; accompanists and office space. The enclosed newsletter gives you a complete break-down of these expenses, as well as revenues.

Please consider us in your financial planning and send in a donation!  We accept donations of any size. The reverse-side of this sheet provides you with giving levels.

When people from all walks of life combine their hearts and minds, resources and voices, a mysterious alchemy results….something we call music! It’s larger than the sum of its individual parts … involving each audience member, each donation, each volunteer and every singer … and creates a unique community experience. Help us keep this alchemy alive!  Thank you for thinking of us.

Yours truly,

 Stu Fraser

What You Should Know About the Telluride Choral Society

·       The Telluride Choral Society enriches the community cultural experience by providing performances and ongoing music education through the Children’s Chorus of Telluride, the Adult Telluride Chorale and other vocal ensembles.  The Telluride Choral Society seeks high musical standards while developing the individual growth of all participants.

·       Our non-profit tax-exempt ID# is:  84-1330825.

·       We have 6 different vocal performance groups.  Last year 67 Telluride school students and 68 adults participated in these choirs.  We collaborate with various instrumentalists in the Telluride region including the Telluride Chamber Orchestra.

·       During the 2002-2003 season, Telluride Choral Society performances reach audiences totaling over 2,500.

·       Our participants pay tuition.  Each group rehearses two hours per week for approximately 25 weeks during the choral year.  In addition to these rehearsals, each participant is expected to practice and study at home.

·       We are committed to making participation possible for everyone who wants to be part of the Telluride Choral Society.  We make every effort to keep our tuition affordable.  In situations where this is not possible, we provide scholarships.  We also offer scholarships for outside study and to any participant wanting ongoing education in vocal music or musicianship (theory and composition).

·       Donations account for 49% of our annual revenues.  Grants for 15%, tuition 25%.  The remaining 11% come from ticket sales to concerts and special events.

·          Our expenses include our Artistic Director’s salary, fees for accompanists, production costs (including music-related expenses such as copyright fees and programs), rent and advertising.  During the 1999-2000 season, our office personnel expenses accounted for only 1% of our budget.  The Telluride Choral Society is run by dedicated, hard working volunteers.

·       The Telluride Choral Society offers the only current opportunity for students in the middle and high school to receive formal vocal education and perform before the public.
